A skippered charter means renting a boat together with the person who sails it. You and your crew are on holiday; the skipper is responsible for manoeuvres, the route and safety. It is the simplest way to get on the water without a licence and without stress, but also a service you pay for separately. Here is when a skipper really pays off, what it costs and what to ask before booking.
Three ways onto the water
On Polish waters you effectively have three options. One: sail on your own with a licence, if the vessel requires it. Two: choose a boat you can legally helm without a licence within the statutory limits and learn on calm waters. Three: hire a skipper and enjoy a cruise with no responsibility for the manoeuvres.

A skipper makes particular sense when you want a bigger boat than the no-licence limits allow, when there are small children aboard and you would rather keep your hands free, or when this is your first contact with sailing and you prefer learning from someone experienced instead of by trial and error.
What a skipper costs
Skipper rates on a Masuria yacht charter usually run at a few hundred zlotys per day: the market range is most often around 250-500 PLN, depending on the water, the boat and the season. These are indicative market ranges, not any operator's price list: the final amount is always confirmed by the operator at booking. On top of that come the customary arrangements worth writing down before the cruise: the skipper sleeps aboard in a separate berth, and the crew provides meals or adds an allowance.

What a skippered cruise looks like in practice
A good skipper starts by asking about expectations: do you want harbours and taverns, or quiet bays, and does anyone want to learn to sail. Then they plan the route around the forecast and make sure the plan is never more ambitious than the weather. Formally, the skipper service should be written into the charter contract or a separate order: with a name, a rate and a scope. Avoid handshake deals with someone recommended at the last minute, because if damage occurs it will not be clear who is liable.
