- a motor yacht with engine power up to 10 kW (about 13.6 hp), that is a typical small motorboat,
- a larger boat up to 75 kW and a hull length of up to 13 m, provided its speed is structurally limited to 15 km/h. Houseboats and many cabin motorboats fall inside this limit.
Sailing boats are a separate matter: a purely sail-powered trip on inland waters is also often available without a licence on small boats, but larger sailing yachts and faster motorboats already require qualifications.
