Chartering on Zegrze Reservoir: where to set off, what to choose and how to sail without a licence on the biggest reservoir near Warsaw. Guide with a table and FAQ.

Chartering on Zegrze Reservoir is the simplest way to spend a day or a weekend on the water without traveling to the other end of Poland. This large, man-made reservoir lies right by Warsaw, has a wide surface for sailing and full marina facilities. We explain where to set off, which boat to choose and what to keep in mind when booking.
Why Zegrze, or water within reach
Zegrze Reservoir was created by damming the Narew river at Debe and today is the most popular recreational water near the capital. From the center of Warsaw you usually reach its shores in about an hour, which makes it an ideal destination for a spontaneous trip or a weekend when you do not want to lose a day traveling to Masuria.
Several centers cluster around the reservoir: Nieporet, Bialobrzegi, Zegrze, Serock and Rybaki. You will find marinas, rental bases, slipways and dining, and on the water you will see a full cross-section of boats: sailboats, motorboats, jet skis and houseboats. It is a body of water that serves both sailors and families looking for a lazy day on deck.
What to choose for Zegrze Reservoir
The wide surface favors sailing, but calm bays and sheltered arms are friendly to motorboats and houseboats too. The choice depends on how you want to spend your time on the water.
| Plan on the water | What to choose |
|---|---|
| Learning and the joy of sailing | a small or medium sailing yacht |
| A lazy day with the family | a houseboat or a motor yacht |
| A party or birthday on the water | a large houseboat with a deck |

Without a licence, after a short briefing
A large part of the fleet at Zegrze is available without a licence. In Poland, without a licence you can operate sailboats with a hull length up to 7.5 m and motor yachts up to 13 m with an engine power up to 10 kW or a speed up to 15 km/h. In practice most houseboats and smaller motorboats fall within these limits, and the operator gives a short briefing on handling the boat before you set off.
This makes Zegrze a great body of water for a first time: close, safe and free of the formalities of an exam. If you are just starting out, our beginner's guide will come in handy.
